Owning a vending machine business is one of the few ways that you can be certain to make lots of cash for very little amounts of work. Theoretically, all you must do is buy the machine and strategically place it in high-traffic areas, and then return sometime later to collect the money and restock the products. There is actually much more that goes into starting a vending machine business, but it’s nothing that you can’t handle as long as you plan thoroughly and remain diligent.
First of all, beware of vending machine manufacturers that make enormous claims. It’s true that you can make quite a bit of money in this business, but it will take some time. Don’t run off and buy ten vending machines just because the initial outlay of cash seems to be relatively small. It’s a good idea to start with one or two machines so that you can get the feel for the business, as well as test out several markets. This way, if you decide that it’s not the business for you, you can back out without having lost your entire life savings.
You also must make sure that you take the time to keep your machines maintained and stocked. No one will visit a machine that has failed them once before; it’s too easy to just find another one. You should also make sure that your products are not similar to products that are sold in your location or nearby. Be sure to make frequent trips to claim the money, as full machines will turn away customers.
Besides the possible sales that come from placing your machines in high-traffic areas, you also cut down on the risk of vandalism. Be sure to scout locations with a critical eye, because shady areas can result in higher chances of vandalism. Remember, however, that the most common places for placing vending machines will likely already have a contract in place with a large vending company. Don’t just assume that you can place it anywhere.
It’s not a magical solution to the get-rich-quick mystery. Vending machines will take time and effort. Your machine is not likely to make more than fifty dollars in any given day. Resist the urge to buy more machines until you begin to see a healthy profit from the one or two machines that you started with. In time, the vending machines will start to work for you.
